BMW 520i saloon

Within the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 520i was the entry into the world of 6-cylinder petrol engines. All these engines epitomise dynamic driving pleasure and silky-smooth running. This is particularly true for the version with displacement of two litres. New engines from 2001 increased the power from the original level of 150 hp to 170 hp. Innovative technologies like variable valve timing (Vanos) and the world’s first lightweight alloy chassis manufactured in large-scale production helped to reduce fuel consumption.

BMW 525tds saloon

The BMW 525tds was initially the only diesel version of the fourth BMW 5 Series generation. The 6-cylinder diesel engine combined super torque for sporty driving performance with a noise development that was exemplary for diesel engines. The diesel fuel was injected into a swirl chamber in order to achieve this. The prepared fuel-air mixture was conveyed from there into the combustion chambers. Innovative technologies like the world’s first alloy chassis manufactured in large-scale production enabled fuel consumption to be reduced still further.
