1998 Seville STS – Cadillac’s all-new flagship car was designed to appeal to the global luxury market and is being built in both left- and right-hand drive versions for export to more than 40 countries worldwide. The STS features the first automotive application of adaptive seating, which adjusts air pressure in 10 air cells for optimum comfort and support.
The Cadillac Seville is designed to lead Cadillac into the global market and set a new worldwide standard for styling, performance and technology in the high-performance luxury sedan category. * All-new vehicle architecture (58 percent stiffer in beaming and 53 percent stiffer in torsion than previous model) and advanced acoustical treatments make the ’98 Seville one of the quietest cars in the world
* New Performance Algorithm Shifting (PAS) automatic transmission, standard on the STS, that responds like a manual gearbox during performance driving
* New Magnasteer(tm) III power rack-and-pinion, variable-assist, speed-sensitive steering, which reacts to lateral acceleration as well as speed
* First automotive application of adaptive seating, which uses a system of 10 computer-controlled air cells in the seat cushion, seat back and side supports that automatically adjust to each individual driver for optimum
comfort (and adjusts while driving).
* New accessory system which reduces unpleasant engine noise at idle to almost imperceptible levels
* Redesigned rear suspension (multi-link design) allows for maximum interior and trunk space, and delivers a more controlled and comfortable ride
* Enhancements to the Class II electrical architecture that reduces the complexity of the wiring system for improved reliability and reduced weight
* New instrument cluster with four electro-luminescent analog gauges with illuminated needles
* Redesigned interior allows for 19 specific, multi-functional storage areas (14 more than the ’97 Seville)
* Cabin air filtration system (particulate and odours)
* Refinements to the 275-hp and 300-hp Northstar 4.6-litre V8 engines for smoother and quieter operation, and hydraulic dampers for the engine/transaxle mounting system that help reduce powertrain noise and torque steer
* New, water-cooled Delphi generator is mounted directly to engine block to eliminate vibration
* Power tilt-and-telescope steering wheel to allow shorter drivers to locate the steering wheel and air bag at a safer distance (standard on STS; optional on SLS)
* Next generation frontal air bags that deploy with reduced force, and front-seat side air bags
* New “belts-to-seat” feature for driver and front seat passenger with lap and shoulder belts anchored to the seat that move with every adjustment; both the front shoulder belts and head restraints are electronically adjustable
* Seville meets new head-injury protection standards (six years before they go into full effect)
* 425-watt, 8-speaker, High Performance Bose 4.0 entertainment system (standard on STS; optional on SLS)
* Radio Data System (RDS) enables the radio to receive data from FM stations – where available – such as station call letters,type of station program (e.g. jazz, classical, news, adult contemporary), automatic tuning for specific program type, name of song and artist, interruption of cassette of CD for traffic announcements or emergency warnings, and display of data such as sports scores or stock quotes
