Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow (1965-1980)

Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow I

Introduced in 1965, the Silver Shadow I was the first Rolls-Royce to feature a monocoque chassis. It had a top speed limited to 118 mph and was capable of producing 220BHP at 4,500 rpm.

The Silver Shadow was the first Rolls-Royce to use a unibody construction, which improved handling and ride quality. With the Hydropneumatic Suspension, Rolls-Royce introduced self-leveling technology, initially on all four wheels, later models only had this system on the rear wheels. Equipped with disc brakes all around, a significant advancement at the time.

Luxury Appointments included high-quality leather upholstery, walnut veneers, and thick carpeting. The attention to detail and craftsmanship was exemplary.

The Silver Shadow was primarily a 4-door saloon, but also available as a 2-door coupe and convertible (Silver Shadow Drophead Coupe)

The Silver Shadow I was produced from 1965 to 1976, and the Silver Shadow II from 1977 to 1980. Approximately 30,057 units, making it the most popular Rolls-Royce model ever produced. The Silver Shadow’s popularity helped Rolls-Royce expand its market significantly during its production run.
