The Porsche 968 launched in 1992 and was the beginning of the end of the development of four-cylinder transaxle models at Porsche.
For this successor to the 944 S2, most of the bodyshell parts were adopted from the predecessor. Yet, the front end of the 968 in particular was much more modern – and partly anticipated the front-end design of a later 911 model (the type 993).
With the 968, a six-speed manual transmission and a Tiptronic transmission were available for the first time. What’s more, the VarioCam variable intake camshaft adjustment was used for the first time in this model.
The 968 was available as a Coupé and as a Cabriolet.
