In the late ’60s the close connection between Porsche and Volkswagen, which had grown consistently in the course of time, led to the construction of the VW-Porsche 914 – a dynamic but economical sports car. Apart from the four-cylinder VW version, there was a sixcylinder version of this very agile mid-engined sports car built exclusively for Porsche. And there were two cars with an eight-cylinder power unit carried over from motorsport, one of which was given to Ferry Porsche as a gift for his 60th birthday
