Jaguar XK140 (1954 to 1957)

1958 Jaguar XK140 Fixed Head Coupe

The Jaguar XK140 was manufactured between 1954 and 1957 as the successor to the XK120. Upgrades included more interior space, improved brakes, rack and pinion steering, increased suspension travel, and telescopic shock absorbers instead of the older lever arm design. The XK140 was introduced in late 1954 and sold as a 1955 model.

The XK140 retained the classic curves of the XK120 but with a few updates. It featured a redesigned front grille, larger bumpers, and improved lighting. The front and rear bumpers were fitted with over-riders.
More room in the cockpit due to the repositioned engine and firewall. The interior was more luxurious than the XK120 with increased space for the driver and passenger with Leather seats and walnut dashboard were standard. The Drophead Coupe and Fixed Head Coupe had small rear seats for occasional use.

Rack and pinion steering replaced the recirculating ball system of the XK120, improving steering precision for better suspension with more travel for improved ride comfort. Larger torsion bars and better damping.
Disc brakes were still optional, but drum brakes were standard and improved from the XK120.

The XK140 was significant as it bridged the gap between the XK120 and the XK150, incorporating improvements in performance, comfort, and design.
It was also one of the early models to offer an automatic transmission, expanding its appeal to a broader market.
