BMW 700 Models (1959-1965)
Success was unable to solve the deep-seated financial crisis besetting the BMW Group in the early 1960’s. The support from Herbert Quandt and a new product concept enabled BMW to chart a roadmap to profitability with the advanced small car BMW 700. The new design and technical developments had a distinct profile compared with all its predecessors. The final breakthrough came from 1961 with the “New Class”.
BMW 700 Cabriolet
As most exclusive model in the 700 series, the BMW 700 Cabriolet appeared in mid 1961. The body wrought Baur in Stuttgart had suggested this open variant and finally get from BMW the contract to design and production. The supporting elements have been stiffened at Baur and designed rear of the car new. 1959 BMW launched the BMW 700 Coupé and the same engine sedan cars on the market, which offered all the attributes of the brand such as good design, sportiness and quality. The coupe was a sporty elegant 2 +2- seater, which in a 40-hp variant called BMW 700 sport was to be had from the summer of 1961. Until the mid-sixties, this model served as the base vehicle for legendary motorsport successes. As of March 1963 this model received the designation BMW 700 CS.

BMW 700 CS

BMW 700 Luxus
In 1961, BMW offered a better equipped version of the BMW 700, the BMW 700 luxury. The additional equipment included an electric clock, round instruments, seat wear edges of faux leather, oil pressure warning lamp, fuel standard display, larger steering wheel, Tilt windows front and reversing lights. BMW LS
As of April 1962 presented to the BMW LS luxury to simple type LS equipped to the side, where the customer saved DM 250. BMW LS Luxus
At the beginning of 1962, with the BMW LS luxury a significantly revised version of the BMW 700 sedan on the market. With richer interior and generous space in the interior of the new BMW LS luxury offered a more comfortable ride compared to the BMW 700, the new LS luxury was a real success for BMW.
