Renault ceased production of its Alpine brand in 1995, marking the end of four decades of independent sports car manufacturing under the Renault umbrella.
Alpine’s original car production ended on 7 April 1995, when the last Alpine A610 rolled off the production line in Dieppe, France.
The A610, which was discontinued due to poor sales and profitability. Sales for the A610 were low, with only 818 units sold prior to its axing. The decision was driven by the high cost of meeting new safety standards and low sales volume.
After 1995, the Dieppe plant shifted focus to manufacturing high-performance Renault Sport models, such as the Renault Spider and Clio V6.
Although the brand was discontinued in 1995, Renault retained the rights and eventually relaunched the marque with the new Alpine A110 in 2017.
